NAGEL AUKTIONEN – Stuttgart NAGEL AUKTIONEN is one of Germany’s largest and most established fine art auction houses and ranks among the leading generalist auction houses in the German-speaking market. Based in Stuttgart, we conduct annually two major auctions of Fine Art, Antiques and Jewellery, as well as two auctions each dedicated to Modern & Contemporary Art and Asian Art. Our program is complemented by Varia, special themed sales, and curated collection and castle auctions. As a broadly positioned house, we combine expertise across numerous collecting categories under one roof: Old Master Paintings and Antiques, Modern & Contemporary Art, Asian Art, Jewellery, Luxury Watches, Islamic Art, Carpets, Design and selected luxury objects. Unlike many auction houses that specialize in only one segment, NAGEL AUKTIONEN is one of Germany’s largest generalist auction houses, offering comprehensive market coverage and cross-category expertise. We handle exceptional individual works as professionally as complete estates, private collections and institutional holdings. NAGEL AUKTIONEN is a trusted specialist in estate and collection management — providing valuation, scholarly cataloguing, international marketing, logistics and successful auction placement from a single source. Founded in 1922 by Dr. Fritz Nagel, the company looks back on more than 100 years of history. Significant private collections and castle inventories were already sold in the 1920s and 1930s. After World War II, the company established itself in Stuttgart and developed into an internationally active auction house. Since 1990, the business has been strategically oriented towards the international market and has become particularly renowned for its strong position in Asian Art. NAGEL AUKTIONEN is a member of the Bundesverband Deutscher Kunstversteigerer e. V. (German Auctioneers Association). The house gained worldwide recognition with the 2000 auction of the “Treasures of the Tek Sing” shipwreck, which attracted global media attention and was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. In recent years, NAGEL AUKTIONEN has achieved several outstanding results: – In 2018, €7.3 million were realized for a rare Imperial Chinese dragon vase — a record result for works of art in the German-speaking market. – In 2021, a Chinese bronze achieved €14.07 million, at that time the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction in Germany. – In 2022, the “Art Kite Collection” generated €8.7 million and received international attention. Since 2023, a special focus has been placed on curated institutional and collection sales, including auctions connected to major foundations and corporate collections, while maintaining strong regional roots in Southern Germany. With an experienced team of specialists, an international clientele and modern digital infrastructure, NAGEL AUKTIONEN combines tradition with contemporary marketing — in the auction room, by telephone, online and via international platforms such as Drouot.
